muscle energy techniques (MET)

Muscle energy is a soft tissue approach to the treatment of joint and muscle dysfunction. The techniques were originally described by Dr Fred L. Mitchell an osteopath in the 1940s. The technique requires accurate joint positioning with an isometric (static) activation of a muscle to release spasm and allow the joint and muscles to return to a normal state. The technique is particularly useful in the treatment of spinal and pelvic dysfunction and pain. It is gentle and requires no clicking of joints which make them effective and comfortable for all ages. All physiotherapists at es physical health have attended postgraduate courses to perfect the MET technique.
