biomechanical assessment
A biomechanical assessment is the examination of normal movement patterns and the relationship between a single joint or a collection of joints within a specific limb chain. The biomechanical assessment is done in a static position or during active motion to analyse muscular control and dynamic movement patterns. Following injury a biomechanical assessment is necessary to evaluate the effect of faulty movement patterns and to assess whether they are the cause of the injury. A biomechanical assessment is required for lower limb injuries such as repeated ankle sprains, foot pain, anterior knee pain and hip problems. It is often performed for runners to decide which type of running shoe is best suited to their running style, bodyweight and running distance.
