Acute neck or back pain occurs suddenly and is very debilitating with a dramatic loss of function, as the area often goes into a protective spasm. Careful assessment is required to accurately identify the structure at fault and devise a treatment plan. Physiotherapy will be helpful if the problem is musculoskeletal and treatment will be effective after a short number of treatments. We aim to improve the symptoms at the first appointment. At e s physical health we use a combination of gentle mobilisation techniques to offload an aggravated nerve root as well as soft tissue mobilisation, manipulation, acupuncture and taping to alleviate the symptoms as quickly as possible. However, if the treatment is not quickly effective then a GP or specialist opinion may be necessary and pain killers may be required.
